Western Montana Climate Science

We care about people, birds, wolverines, trout, forests, and the natural places we all call home. Climate change affects all these and more, whether through direct impacts like changes in temperature or snowfall, or indirect impacts like changes to an individual species' behavior or survival.

The nexus of forest ecology, forest management, climate change and us
This takes you to our Summer Smart climate indicators section. More about the rest of the year to come, but see buttons to left and right!
CLimate impacts to
natural resources & wildlife
Thanks to our awesome intern Dylan MacArthur-Waltz for developing this section while on summer break from University!
Just released: the 2017 Montana Climate Assessment! This first assessment is part of an ongoing process of research and reporting on climate impacts in our state. It focuses on water, agriculture, and forestry - future editions will tackle other sectors such as recreation and tourism. Fine work by many local climate scientists. Lots of good information and an easily-navigable site - check it out!

Shout out:  We thank the many researchers who put in long hours and dedicate their lives to helping us understand change within our ecological and human communities. If you'd like to help, consider working on a climate - citizen science project. Options are here.
