100% Clean Electricity for Missoula

Missoula is committed to 100% Clean Electricity by 2030!

On April 3, 2019, the Missoula County Commissioners and the Missoula City Council adopted a joint resolution that establishes a goal of 100% clean electricity for the Missoula urban area by 2030.

Climate Smart worked with an Ad Hoc group to help draft and support this resolution. Thanks 350 Montana, Sierra Club, Environment Montana and more. Over 400 individuals and 45 businesses and organizations signed on to the 100% Clean Electricity open letter of support. The resolution is linked to our 100% Clean Electricity Options Report (linked below), which outlines ways our community can reach this goal.

Following the adoption of this goal, the city and county worked with NorthWestern Energy to develop a Memorandum of Understanding committing the three parties to work together to advance the city and county's 100% clean electricity goal. The parties to the MOU are now developing an Implementation Plan as required by the MOU.

Climate Smart Missoula is also working with the City and County to develop a Roadmap to 100% Clean Electricity, which will build on the Options Report and include both projects/programs to be pursued jointly with NorthWestern Energy as well as initiatives that the city, county, and community will pursue independent of the utility.
