We find ourselves anxious, challenged and resolved. As the COVID19 crisis builds, let's build community. Stay tuned here for what we're thinking, reading, and listening to, as well as ideas on how you can join.
Social Distancing Bingo for the Climate Activist
Sometimes the remedy for an anxious mind is action, and even in this time of great uncertainty, there are still things we can do.
Our approach at Climate Smart follows two tracks: on one hand, we are responding to the immediate needs in our community, through mutual aid efforts and supporting organizations serving those hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis, such as the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center, United Way of Missoula's COVID-19 response fund, the Poverello Center, and others. At the same time, we continue our work to build a future that is just and sustainable.
In that spirit, we hope you will join us in playing BINGO, customized for the climate activist who is responsibly social distancing. Click to download (we'll be posting more as time goes on), and we hope you'll tag us as you complete your bingo journey and send us pictures of your completed card.
Each person who completes bingo (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) will be entered into a raffle. The prize? We'll donate to the food bank in your honor!

Climate Change + Coronavirus
We're reading lots of interesting articles about the parallels between the coronavirus pandemic and the climate crisis, as we consider how we as a community, state, and nation can respond to both challenges equitably and in ways that build resilience.
- Six lessons coronavirus can teach us about climate change (Earthday.org): Helpful ideas as we think about the upcoming 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and how to continue advocating for a just and sustainable future for all.
- Pausing the World to Fight Coronavirus Has Carbon Emissions Down—But True Climate Success Looks Like More Action, Not Less (TIME Magazine). "This pandemic ought to inspire a fundamental rethinking of the role of science and knowledge, the importance of competent leadership including global cooperation, and how the fate of the most vulnerable anywhere affects the fortunes of everyone everywhere. If it does, its true benefits to the climate will last well after the world gets back to work."
- A just and sustainable economic response to the coronavirus, explained (Vox) - one of our favorite climate writers and thinkers, David Roberts, sketches the big picture then dives deep into the details.
- What a Coronavirus Recovery Could Look Like (Citylab): Ideas about how to build resilience in cities.
- It's important to keep talking about climate change now (Outside Magazine): "Is it tone-deaf to talk about climate right now? Or is this an opportunity to tackle major global problems in tandem?"
